Hong Kong-based satellite manufacturer Uspace Technology Group Limited, formerly known as Hong Kong Aerospace Technology Group, has announced the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Satellite Application Technology Centre in Shenzhen. The move underscores Uspace’s strategic pivot to integrate advanced AI capabilities with its satellite operations and services.
The new center, spearheaded by Uspace’s subsidiary Gang Hang Ke (Shenzhen) Space Technology Co., Ltd., aims to develop AI-driven intelligent decision-making, autonomous satellite operation systems, and AI frameworks for managing satellite clusters. This initiative will leverage real-time satellite remote sensing data, enhancing processing, analysis, and enabling sophisticated satellite-ground computing synergy.
Uspace has previously launched and operated 12 ‘Golden Bauhinia’ satellites as part of its constellation, systematically supporting applications in agricultural monitoring, environmental protection, smart transportation, and smart city development in the Greater Bay Area. The company plans to complete the production and deployment of more satellites before the end of 2026, expanding its network to over 100 satellites to enhance commercial and governmental satellite services.
This shift towards AI integration is in line with Uspace’s broader vision of incorporating Industry 5.0 concepts, such as human-robot collaboration and intelligent manufacturing, into satellite technology, aiming to reduce production costs and improve operational efficiency.
Uspace’s Shenzhen tech center will serve as a hub for research, development, and commercialization of AI-enhanced satellite applications, aiming to capture new market opportunities in China and globally, including planned projects over the Middle East and Africa in cooperation with the Arab Information and Communications Organization.
CEO Wen Yichuan emphasized the importance of partnerships and advanced technology adoption to position Uspace as a leader in the evolving aerospace ecosystem.
In summary, Uspace’s establishment of the AI Satellite Application Technology Centre in Shenzhen symbolizes its strategic commitment to merging satellite manufacturing with artificial intelligence, aiming to enhance satellite capabilities, operating efficiency, and market scope across Asia and beyond.
