A high-level committee appointed by a government panel has looked into the fire incidents which involve three Electric Vehicle players- Ola Electric, Okinawa, and Pure EV. A preliminary report has been published by the government and the final report would be out in about two weeks. Through the government’s preliminary report, it has been found that the causes of the fire incidents are faulty battery cells and modules.
A government panel was made to oversee the cause of EVs catching fire after a few incidents which also resulted in the death of a 13-year-old girl. The report said that in Ola’s vehicles, the battery cells and the battery management system were issues, Okinawa e-bikes had problems with their cells and battery modules and PureEV had problems with the battery casing.

In regard to the incidents happening with the Electric Vehicles, the central government has asked for a detailed report this week from the EV manufacturers on the safety mechanisms and quality control measures. Even before asking for a detailed report, the government had already asked the EV players for ideas, suggestions, and recommendations for the prevention of such fires in the future.
The Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had already warned the EV players to take “advance action to recall all defective batches of vehicles immediately.”
