The Meat Chop, a Chennai-based startup that sources meat from local butcher shops, successfully Raised 7 crore in a seed funding round led by Mohan K, Meenakshi Sundaram, and Jaikumar R, co-founders of IppoPay, Ankur Agarwal, the co-founder of Dunzo, Rahul Mahipal, founder of Capitar Ventures, Omar Bin Brek, founder, and CEO of Foloosi), Amith D’Souza of Google, among other investors.
The resources will be used to develop and improve technology and supply chain infrastructure. They also intend to establish a strong team and brand for the firm. The platform sees a 50 to 60% increase in sales volume, a 90% reduction in waste, and yearly sales of roughly Rs 1.5 crore on average.
The Meat Chop, founded in 2021 by Appaas, Kalyan, Navas, and Yasar, controls procurement, marketing, promotions, and merchandising for the butcher businesses on their network using a software stack. The platform solves the challenges of unorganized, inadequate sourcing, and unsanitary retailers by bringing together farmers, fishermen, butcher shops, and end users.
The Meat Chop intends to use an integrated tech stack platform to tackle the low-margin, poor-profit challenge encountered by stakeholders in the congested value chain.
