Carlyle considers acquiring VLCC Healthcare


Carlyle is planning to acquire VLCC Healthcare, a domestic wellness, beauty, and personal care company. With this acquisition, Carlyle will make a significant play in the rapidly expanding and popular industry, which recently has seen the emergence of several new direct-to-consumer brands. 

The Carlyle group is reportedly seeking to acquire a 60–70% interest for approximately 2,000–2,500 crore ($250–300 million) through a main investment and the secondary purchase of shares from the founding Luthra family.

95% of VLCC is owned by Mukesh and Vandana Luthra, with the remaining 5% being held by workers and other parties. According to media sources, Luthra’s will continue to be an investor in the new management team that Carlyle will choose.

Carlyle acquiring VLCC Healthcare

The business, which began in New Delhi, today operates in 13 nations and includes plants in Haridwar, Assam, and Singapore. Singapore, Thailand, Kuwait, Qatar, Kenya, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal all have direct management of operations. In order to establish healthcare, wellness, and beauty clinics in South East Asia, it finalised a strategic alliance with the Thailand-based Minor Hotels group in late 2019.

Wellscience and Vanity Cube, which are involved in the nutraceuticals and on-demand beauty services industries, respectively, are two of the companies that the company has acquire.
