BirdsEyeView Secures Seven-Figure Funding to Expand AI Wildfire Modeling
- ByStartupStory | January 14, 2026
In a proactive response to the escalating global threat of climate-driven fires, BirdsEyeView, the London-based insurtech backed by the European Space Agency (ESA), has successfully secured an undisclosed seven-figure investment. Announced on January 14, 2026, the funding marks a pivotal step in the company’s mission to replace legacy historical risk models with real-time, satellite-driven intelligence.
The investment round was led by 24 Haymarket, with additional participation from all existing investors, including SFC Capital and ACF Investors.
Redefining Risk: The Wildfire Crisis
Wildfire risk has transformed from a seasonal localized issue into a top-tier driver of global property loss, rising from 1% of insured natural catastrophe losses before 2015 to roughly 7% over the last decade.
BirdsEyeView argues that “legacy” models are no longer sufficient because they rely on historical data that fails to account for how climate change is pushing severe fire activity into regions—such as parts of the UK and Northern Europe—not previously considered high-risk.
The BirdsEyeView Advantage:
-
Street-Level Precision: The platform provides high-resolution risk scoring and probabilistic modeling at the individual property level.
-
AI & Satellite Fusion: By combining petabytes of ESA satellite data with machine learning, the platform analyzes over 300 billion data points, including elevation, vegetation type, and power-line proximity.
-
Ignition Source Modeling: Unlike traditional models, BirdsEyeView explicitly models both human-caused and climate-driven ignition factors.
Strategic Roadmap: North America and Australia
The fresh capital is earmarked for three primary growth pillars as the company looks to build on its 200% turnover growth achieved in 2025:
-
Product Development: Accelerating the next generation of its machine learning-driven wildfire model, which recently demonstrated a 61% increase in predictive accuracy in Australian pilot tests.
-
Scientific Expansion: Expanding its internal team of PhD-level climate scientists and data specialists to refine its multi-peril (Flood, Wind, Earthquake) software.
-
Commercial Scaling: Strengthening its presence in North America and Australia, where wildfire exposure is reaching critical levels for property and construction underwriters.
“Advances in AI are transforming hazard modelling by automating time-consuming data preparation. This allows our team to focus on high-value scientific analysis while ensuring our models evolve in real-time with our changing climate.” — James Rendell, CEO and Founder of BirdsEyeView.
Institutional Trust
BirdsEyeView is already a trusted partner for over 20 leading global insurers and brokers, including Allianz, AXA XL, Aon, and Liberty Specialty Markets. By delivering “live” portfolio exposure management directly to an underwriter’s desktop, the company is enabling carriers to move away from “blind” underwriting toward data-driven risk selection.
As Jamie Dunnett, Investment Director at 24 Haymarket, noted: “The company has made excellent progress since our initial entry, and we are well-positioned for a big 2026 as BirdsEyeView expands its success into the broader Property insurance market.”
