Reliance Industries, Tata Power, Adani Solar, Acme Solar and Vikram Solar are likely to bid for solar projects under PLI (production-linked incentive) scheme. The government is expecting a grand response to the programme with bids at nearly four times the 10 Gw tender. A senior government official said large companies are evincing interest and are expected to commit end-to-end solar manufacturing. About 18 bids of nearly 40 Gw were submitted by companies, including large ones, till Sunday for the scheme, he said. The bids are scheduled to be opened on Tuesday.
“We can accommodate a maximum of 10 Gw. Many players are committing to set up a fully integrated plant from polysilicon to module against our expectations of beginning with wafers to modules,” the official said. The union cabinet had in April approved the PLI scheme for manufacture of high efficiency solar photovoltaic modules with a ₹4,500 crore outlay. The incentives are expected to add 10 Gw of high-efficiency integrated solar PV manufacturing plants and bring direct investment of around Rs 17,200 crore in solar PV manufacturing.
