Archaea Energy Inc. (“Archaea” or “The Company”) (NYSE: LFG), a leading renewable natural gas (“RNG”) company, today announced the successful launch of Project Assai, a GNR located in The Keystone Sanitary Landfill in Dunmore, Pa. (“Assai”). The pipeline-grade RNG was manufactured and completed commercial operation on December 30, 2021. Assai is currently the highest-capacity RNG operating facility in the world.
Assai was successfully built, operated and completed within budget time and in less than two years, significantly shorter than the industry average for RNG landfill gas development projects , including much smaller projects. Assai has an input capacity of 22,500 scfm and combines streams from the Keystone landfill and the Waste Management Coalition landfill. Assai is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 200,000 tons per year and significantly reduce air pollutants, many by more than 90%.

“The completion of Assai is a great moment for Archaea,” said Nick Stork, CEO of Archaea. “First of all, I want to thank our team. They worked day and night, overcoming obstacles and ignoring many claims that this was not possible, let alone getting it done safely, on budget, and in unprecedentedly fast time. in our industry. I would also like to thank the Keystone Sanitary Landfill, their incredible staff and ownership. Keystone’s world-class collaboration, vision and operations are essential to the project’s success. I am also grateful for our partnership with Waste Management, UGI, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and our business partners, FortisBC Energy Inc., Énergir, LP and the University of California System , who have made significant long-term commitments to decarbonization and the success of this project. Finally, I am grateful for the many lessons learned from this project. We did many important aspects of this project ourselves that most would have to be outsourced. The cumulative impact of this knowledge will translate into lower costs and faster turnaround times for landfill owners and collection partners across North America. LFG! “
