Ajay Singh, CEO of SpiceJet, has written to the Prime Minister, requesting that jet fuel be included under GST

Due to the lack of assistance in the previous Budget, India’s ailing aviation industry has asked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to provide immediate aid. Domestic jet fuel costs are at an all-time high in the country, attributable to high base prices and much higher taxation and excise charges.

SpiceJet CEO Ajay Singh urged the FM on Sunday to award the travel industry infrastructure status, which would allow banks and financial institutions to lend to it more easily. Singh urged Sitharaman’s support for the inclusion of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) under GST at a post-budget engagement on behalf of the civil aviation, travel, tourist, and hospitality sectors as ASSOCHAM VP.

The SpiceJet CEO’s comments come amid when the GST Council is debating how to make the transition to the new tax regime easier. Small and medium enterprises have found the shift to be extremely challenging, and the council examined measures to make it simpler for them to complete their GST reports on Friday.
