Uber to set up its first India data centre with Adani Group

Ride-hailing giant Uber is setting up its first data centre in India in partnership with Adani Group, as the company deepens its technology and infrastructure footprint in the country.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the development after meeting Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

“India is fast emerging as a leading innovation hub for Uber,” Khosrowshahi said in a post on X, adding that the facility will help the company “test and deploy” technology at scale from India for global operations.

The move comes as Uber sharpens its focus on India, a key growth market for the company. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is currently on a five-day India visit, during which he met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss the company’s investment roadmap for the country. He also held talks with former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.

The development also aligns with Adani Group’s broader push into data centre and digital infrastructure through AdaniConneX, which has been expanding its footprint across multiple Indian cities, including a large data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.

Uber’s latest investment comes at a time when global technology firms are ramping up investments in India’s cloud and AI ecosystem, driven by rising demand for localised data infrastructure and the government’s push for digital sovereignty.
