Flipkart Tests Long-Haul Electric Trucks on Delhi-Jaipur Route to Boost Sustainable Logistics

Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart has taken a significant step forward in its green logistics journey by launching a pilot program to test long-haul electric vehicles (EVs) on the Delhi-Jaipur freight corridor. In partnership with Golden Aero Logistics, Flipkart is using a retrofitted Kalyani electric truck to evaluate the operational feasibility, energy efficiency, and turnaround time of electric trucks in medium-distance freight transportation.

This pilot complements Flipkart’s ambitious sustainability goal of powering its entire last-mile delivery fleet with 100% electric vehicles by 2030 under The Climate Group’s EV100 initiative. The company recently doubled its EV fleet to over 20,000 units, scaling operations across several major metros and tier-2+ cities, including Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Lucknow.

Currently, more than 70% of grocery deliveries on Flipkart’s platform are fulfilled using electric vehicles, significantly reducing the platform’s operational carbon footprint. The long-haul electric truck pilot represents Flipkart’s exploration into extending its electrification efforts beyond last-mile deliveries, targeting medium-distance freight logistics as the next frontier in decarbonizing its supply chain.

The trial on the approximately 280-kilometer Delhi-Jaipur route aims to gather crucial insights into the EV’s performance, including battery life, charging requirements, energy consumption, and turnaround efficiency. These learnings will inform Flipkart’s decisions around scaling long-haul EV adoption and building supporting infrastructure such as charging stations and maintenance facilities.

Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain & Customer Experience at Flipkart Group, described the initiative as a vital proof point for realizing a fully electric logistics network extending from fulfillment centers to customers’ doorsteps. He emphasized the company’s commitment not only to fleet expansion but also to practical knowledge sharing and collaboration with OEMs such as Revolt and Bajaj on infrastructure and product design improvements.

To further promote EV adoption among its delivery and freight partners, Flipkart has launched a nationwide EV Roadshow series, facilitating hands-on testing and awareness across multiple cities. Additionally, the company hosts industry forums to connect fleet operators, manufacturers, and financial services providers, addressing key barriers to EV integration like financing options and charging infrastructure readiness.

Flipkart’s holistic approach—combining fleet expansion, technology pilots, education, and ecosystem collaboration—is seen as a pioneering model for sustainability in the Indian logistics space. The long-haul EV truck pilot on the Delhi-Jaipur route is poised to provide valuable data and operational experience needed to replicate success across other critical freight corridors.

As consumer demand for eco-friendly and sustainable services grows, Flipkart’s investment in electric freight vehicles underscores the rising importance of decarbonizing e-commerce logistics to meet environmental goals. This initiative not only supports India’s commitment to the EV100 global initiative but also sets a roadmap for other companies aiming for a zero-emission supply chain.
