Apple reportedly delays iPhone Air launch until 2027

Apple is reportedly delaying the launch of the second-generation iPhone Air until 2027, according to multiple reports citing supply chain and insider sources. The next iPhone Air was originally scheduled to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models and Apple’s first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026, but Apple has recently taken it off the production schedule without a confirmed new release date.
The decision comes amid weaker-than-expected demand for the first-generation iPhone Air, which was launched in 2025 as the slimmest and lightest Apple smartphone to date. Despite its sleek design, the iPhone Air faced criticism over its smaller battery, single-lens camera, and relatively high price compared to iPhone 17 Pro models, influencing consumer purchase behavior.
Production partners Foxconn and Luxshare have reportedly dismantled most of their iPhone Air production lines, expecting to stop manufacturing the device by the end of November 2025. Apple’s internal engineers and suppliers are still working on the next-generation iPhone Air, but it is unclear when the new model will reach the market.
The delayed iPhone Air 2 was expected to feature design improvements such as a dual-camera system with an ultra-wide lens, better cooling technology borrowed from iPhone 17 Pro’s vapor chamber system, and a larger battery while maintaining a lightweight form factor.
Industry analysts suggest Apple might be rethinking its launch strategy by separating budget and premium iPhone releases, with budget models potentially debuting in the spring and high-end models in the fall, starting from 2027.
This delay reflects Apple’s efforts to recalibrate its product lineup amidst evolving consumer preferences and intensifying competition in the premium smartphone market.
