Texas Sues Roblox, Alleging Platform Endangers Children’s Safety by Failing to Protect Against Predators

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, accusing the popular online gaming platform of disregarding child safety and misleading parents about the risks posed to children using its service. The lawsuit alleges that Roblox has become a “nurturing environment for predators” prioritizing profits over safeguarding young users across Texas.

Roblox, a widely used digital platform with approximately 151.5 million active users, allows children to engage in user-created games and social interactions, often with strangers. Critics argue that the platform’s features have exposed minors to harmful content, harassment, and predatory behavior. Several parents have reported disturbing encounters and safety concerns within the game’s open social environment.

The Texas lawsuit joins similar legal actions launched by the states of Kentucky and Louisiana, which also allege that Roblox has failed to prevent child exploitation and abusive interactions on its platform. The complaints emphasize that Roblox markets itself as a safe space for children while neglecting effective moderation and safety enforcement.

In response, Roblox expressed disappointment, stating the lawsuit is based on “misrepresentations and sensationalized claims.” The company highlighted that it has implemented over 145 safety measures in 2025 alone, including chat filters, restrictions on sharing personal information, and active moderation teams. Roblox also announced plans to introduce technology for age verification using video selfies to better protect users and prevent underage interaction in chat functions.

Texas AG Paxton condemned Roblox for allegedly “sacrificing the well-being of kids on the altar of corporate greed.” He warned that corporations enabling child abuse would “face the full and unrelenting force of the law.”

Roblox has faced regulatory scrutiny and bans in certain countries, including Turkey, over child exploitation concerns. Investigations have also been conducted in Singapore and other jurisdictions regarding the platform’s safety practices.

The company urges parents to utilize available parental controls to restrict their children’s interactions and limit in-game communications to trusted individuals.

In summary, the lawsuit by Texas against Roblox underscores growing regulatory pressure on digital platforms to enhance child protection measures and accountability. It highlights ongoing challenges in balancing open social gaming experiences with the safety and privacy demands of minors in online environments. Roblox maintains its commitment to child safety while facing increasing legal and public scrutiny surrounding its platform’s vulnerabilities.
