Xpeng Unveils Physical AI Innovations: Robotaxis, Humanoid Robots, and Flying Cars


Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has taken a giant leap in AI-driven mobility and robotics by unveiling a diverse portfolio of “Physical AI” products during its AI Day 2025 event in Guangzhou. The company revealed an ambitious roadmap featuring next-generation robotaxis, advanced humanoid robots, and innovative flying cars aimed at redefining personal and urban transportation.

At the heart of Xpeng’s new offerings is the Vision-Language-Action (VLA) 2.0 model, a powerful AI system designed to provide vehicles and robots with enhanced perception, decision-making, and interaction capabilities. This cutting-edge model reportedly processes an astounding 3,000 tera operations per second (TOPS), supported by Xpeng’s proprietary quad “Turing” AI chips, making it one of the world’s most powerful automotive AI platforms.

Xpeng plans to launch three robotaxi models in 2026, including 5-, 6-, and 7-seater variants built specifically for autonomous ride-hailing services. These robo-vehicles operate using a vision-based approach, omitting lidar and high-precision maps, enabling scalable deployment across multiple cities. Redundancy in critical systems like computing, braking, and steering enhances safety, while external displays communicate key information such as speed to pedestrians. The company has partnered with Alibaba’s map division AutoNavi to facilitate robotaxi hailing through the Amap app.

In addition to robotaxis, Xpeng introduced the next-generation IRON humanoid robot that boasts softer, smarter, and more flexible movements. This robot is powered by a combination of VLT (Vision-Language-Thinking), VLA, and VLM AI models enabling capabilities such as conversation, walking, and interaction with humans. Xpeng is aggressively scaling up humanoid robot production, expecting volume manufacturing by the end of 2026 at its embodied intelligence data factory in Guangzhou.

Perhaps the most futuristic of its announcements, Xpeng showcased the A868 flying car under its Aridge brand. This modular electric-hybrid tiltrotor aircraft offers six-passenger capacity, a range of over 500 kilometers, and a top speed of 360 km/h. Designed for vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL), the A868 targets business travel and urban air mobility markets. Xpeng also unveiled the “Land Aircraft Carrier,” a modular van-like vehicle carrying a smaller eVTOL with a range of 20-30 kilometers for short-distance urban flights and air tourism. “Flying camps,” offering experiential flights for tourists, are being set up across China, with 200 planned by the end of 2026.

Xpeng’s comprehensive “Physical AI” ecosystem sets it apart as a pioneer striving to merge physical mobility, robotics, and AI intelligence into an interconnected platform. The company’s vision extends beyond vehicles, encompassing robots and flying machines seamlessly integrated by its powerful AI architecture.

Strategic partnerships strengthen this vision, with Volkswagen announced as the launch strategic partner for VLA 2.0 and the Turing AI chips in China. This collaboration aims to exploit cross-market synergies and accelerate adoption of advanced autonomous driving technologies.

Trials for Xpeng’s robo cars and robotaxis are slated for late 2025, with full-scale commercial rollouts anticipated in the first quarter of 2026. These transformative products position Xpeng at the forefront of a new mobility paradigm, blending automotive engineering, AI, and robotics.
