Rivian Launches Second Spinoff Firm Focused on AI and Robotics
Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has announced its second spinoff company of 2025, named Mind Robotics. This new venture centers on industrial artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, aiming to transform operations in physical world businesses by leveraging Rivian’s operational data to create a robust ‘robotics data flywheel.’
The company disclosed in its third-quarter shareholder letter that Mind Robotics has secured approximately $110 million in external seed funding, reflecting strong investor confidence despite limited public details on specific projects. The startup will focus on applying industrial AI across a broad range of applications, including manufacturing, warehousing, and supply chain operations—areas where Rivian has significant expertise.
Mind Robotics is the second standalone company spun out by Rivian this year; the first was Also Inc., a micromobility startup founded in March, which received funding from Eclipse Ventures and Greenoaks Capital. A trademark application for Mind Robotics lists Eclipse partner Jiten Behl and the firm’s Palo Alto headquarters, signaling involvement from a seasoned venture capital firm familiar with Rivian’s innovation ecosystem.
While specifics about Mind Robotics’ team and product roadmap remain sparse, Rivian hinted that some existing employees might transition to this new venture, similar to the personnel move witnessed during the creation of Also Inc. CEO RJ Scaringe emphasized that Rivian’s strong technological talent and innovation-driven culture have enabled the identification of new growth areas while maintaining focus on core business.
The launch comes amid a surge in industrial AI and robotics investment, with competitors like Tesla and General Motors actively pursuing developments in this space. Unlike pure robotics startups, Rivian leverages extensive real-world operational data from its automotive manufacturing and logistics networks, providing an edge in building practical, scalable AI-powered robotics solutions.
Mind Robotics’ broad trademark application includes potential uses ranging from machinery and vehicles to unconventional products such as “incubators for eggs,” suggesting a platform approach rather than a narrow product line.
