Indian-Origin Kruti Patel Goyal To Be New CEO Of Online Marketplace Etsy

Etsy has announced a significant leadership transition with Kruti Patel Goyal named as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026. Goyal, who currently serves as Etsy’s President and Chief Growth Officer, will succeed Josh Silverman, who has held the CEO position for the past eight years. Silverman will transition to the role of Executive Chair through the end of 2026 to support the leadership handover.
Kruti Patel Goyal brings a strong track record, including her successful tenure as CEO of Depop, the fashion resale platform acquired by Etsy. Over the past year at Etsy, she has led strategic growth initiatives that have improved the company’s top-line performance, earning praise for her deep understanding of customers and vision for Etsy’s future amid challenges.
Etsy has faced a slowing growth environment with a decline in active buyers and gross merchandise sales in recent quarters. Goyal’s appointment signals a renewed focus on growth and innovation, leveraging her experience in social commerce and digital marketplaces to revive Etsy’s expansion.
Josh Silverman reflected on his eight years leading Etsy, applauding Goyal as the ideal leader to shape the company’s next chapter in an evolving retail landscape increasingly influenced by automation and changing consumer behavior.
The leadership change coincided with Etsy’s third-quarter financial report exceeding expectations on earnings and revenue but also showing year-over-year declines in gross merchandise sales and buyer activity. Investors reacted cautiously with a dip in the company’s stock price following the announcement.
Goyal will also join Etsy’s Board of Directors as part of her new role, taking on responsibility for guiding the company towards accelerated growth and operational excellence in an increasingly competitive market.
