Zepto, a quick commerce unicorn, has announced the elevation of Nikhil Mittal as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Mittal, who was previously a senior vice president of engineering at Zepto, becomes the first employee of the three-year-old startup to hold this position. He will report to co-founder Kaivalya Vohra, along with Chief Product Officer Ankit Agarwal.
The company is focused on expanding its technology workforce, particularly in the DevOps, quality assurance, cloud, and infrastructure teams, according to Co-founder and CEO Aadit Palicha. Palicha stated that Zepto’s tech team has grown from zero to 200 employees in the last two years and emphasized the company’s commitment to making strategic hires.
Zepto is also strengthening its technological capabilities by developing a warehouse management system, an enhanced search engine, and software for last-mile delivery partners, Palicha added.
Commenting on Mittal’s appointment, Palicha praised his journey from being the first employee during Zepto’s early days to becoming the CTO of one of India’s fastest-growing tech companies. Co-founder Kaivalya Vohra commended Mittal’s leadership in building a high-performing engineering team and expressed excitement about working together to further develop the company’s engineering capabilities.
In August last year, Zepto achieved unicorn status with a valuation of $1.4 billion after raising $200 million in funding led by StepStone Group and Goodwater Capital, with participation from Nexus Venture Partners, Glade Brook Capital, and Lachy Groom.
