Cuemath Ventures Offline: Inaugurates First Physical Learning Center in Gurugram
- ByStartupStory | November 28, 2023
Cuemath, a Google and Peak XV-backed edtech startup, has stepped into the offline education realm by inaugurating its premier physical learning center in Gurugram. This strategic move marks its foray into the offline segment, following the trend set by established names like BYJU’S, Unacademy, and PhysicsWallah.
The newly opened center in Gurugram offers specialized math classrooms, interactive math play areas equipped with physical manipulatives, and a dedicated math library. According to the startup, this center will cater to K-12 students seven days a week, aiming to provide an immersive learning experience.
Manan Khurma and Jagjit Khurma founded Cuemath in 2013, offering mathematics courses globally for K-12 students. With a presence in over 80 countries, Cuemath aims to expand its physical learning centers in India and the UAE throughout 2024.
Discussing this initiative, Cuemath stated, “We aim to open more such learning centers in India and the UAE in 2024.” The startup has bolstered its team with new educators for the offline center, supplementing its network of over 5,000 math tutors.
However, this move arrives on the heels of the company’s layoff of 200 employees in May and August this year, indicating a shift in its operational strategy amidst market fluctuations. Valued at $407 million post-money during its $57 million fundraise last year, Cuemath boasts backers like Google, Peak XV Partners, Lightrock India, and Alpha Wave.
Cuemath’s expansion into the offline domain mirrors the trajectory of other edtech giants, signifying a pivot in response to market challenges. While the pandemic-induced surge led to substantial growth for edtech companies in 2020 and 2021, subsequent years brought about a slowdown due to the reopening of educational institutions, prompting a shift toward offline ventures.
