Meta, the company behind popular social media platforms, has teamed up with renowned actress Karisma Kapoor for its latest campaign, ‘You Decide,’ aimed at spreading the message of youth wellbeing on its platforms. The partnership with Karisma Kapoor seeks to encourage parents and young users to utilize the safety tools available, ensuring a safer and more controlled online experience on Meta’s platforms.
The digital campaign, ‘You Decide,’ will be amplified by nearly ten creators, including @littleglove_aka_shivani, @sharkshe, @manishkharage, among others, to raise awareness among millennials and Gen Z about social media safety and the tools offered by Meta for their protection.
Natasha Jog, Head of Public Policy, Instagram and Policy Programs at Facebook India (Meta), shared insights about the initiative, stating, “We want the time spent on our platforms to be meaningful and intentional, and that’s the premise behind this effort. The idea is to make the overall Meta platforms experience safer for our young users and help parents manage the experience together.”
Karisma Kapoor, a dedicated mother herself, emphasized the importance of the campaign, saying, “Being a parent myself, I want my children to express themselves to their fullest. Social media use today is a shared experience for parents and kids. Parents play a pivotal role in helping create a safe environment through which children can explore the benefits of social media. As a mother, their wellbeing is my top priority. These needs need to be balanced with the need to have a safe online experience. I am happy to be associated with Instagram’s You Decide campaign to help parents effectively support their children in their social media interactions.”
As part of the Youth Wellbeing efforts, Meta has released features such as Quiet Mode, empowering users to focus and set boundaries with friends and followers on the app, giving teens more control over their app usage and content exposure. Additionally, Instagram’s parental supervision feature has received updates, allowing parents to view the accounts their child follows and the accounts that follow their children.
Mansi Zaveri, Founder of Kidsstoppress, shared her thoughts on the campaign, stating, “Social media use today is a shared experience for parents and kids. Parents play a pivotal role in helping create a safe environment through which children can explore the benefits of social media. Meta’s initiative provides parents with the opportunity to have an expanded role in ensuring that safe experience and is a welcome offering.”
Meta’s ‘Family Center’ serves as a comprehensive resource hub for parents, offering all the necessary tools and information to support their teens’ online experience safely. It is a place where parents and teenagers can find guidance on navigating the platforms securely. Additionally, teens will receive notifications after spending 20 minutes on Facebook, encouraging mindful usage.
