Cogito, an automation startup based in New York and Delhi NCR, has reportedly laid off approximately 177 employees. The company alleges that these employees were associated with a project that has been abandoned. Nevertheless, some employees claim that they were not notified by the company about the job loss. Sources suggest that the startup has terminated operations at the office where the affected employees worked.
The laid-off employees of Cogito staged a protest, contending that they were not given any prior notice before being dismissed and that the company failed to remunerate their salaries. On the other hand, Cogito stated that the employees were informed and have been paid their full salaries.
A large portion of the workforce in the tech startup industry has been facing layoffs lately. The reasons cited by most of these companies for the downsizing include rightsizing, cost-cutting, a funding deficit, and employee performance issues.
