India’s first automated biryani takeaway unveiled by Chennai startup BVK Biryani

A startup located in Chennai has developed an unstaffed biryani takeaway system, which they claim is the inaugural of its kind in India.

In Kolathur, Chennai, the BVK Biryani or Bai Veetu Kalyanam has opened a new location that features 32-inch displays for customers to peruse the menu and make their food selections.

Customers have the option to pay for their orders by scanning QR codes or using cards at the BVK Biryani outlet in Kolathur, Chennai. After placing their orders, customers can retrieve their food by selecting the “open door” feature on the touchscreens once their orders are ready.

At BVK Biryani, customers can expect to savour authentic biryani that is cooked using coal and firewood.

According to their website, the startup claims to use traditional Basmati rice, along with meats and vegetables, to create the authentic flavour of biryani as it was originally intended.

The BVK Biryani menu features a variety of options, such as mutton paya, idiyappam, parotta, and halwa, in addition to their biryanis, which range in price from Rs 220 to Rs 449.

Several other startups are exploring the possibilities of automated food service as well.

In 2022, Freshot Robotics launched an “idli ATM” in Bengaluru that dispenses food in a fast and efficient manner. The startup claimed that their foodbot was the first of its kind to provide fully automated cooking and vending services for South Indian delicacies.

Freshot Robotics revealed their intention to expand the availability of their foodbots to various locations, such as offices, railway stations, and airports. They also plan to offer a wider selection of items on their menu, including dosas, rice dishes, and juices.
