Amazon plans to fire as many as 1,000 employees in India

Finally, Amazon has provided the precise amount of employees who will be let go in the upcoming weeks. Up to 18,000 employees could be let go by the corporation, although it hasn’t said which region will be hit worst or any other specifics. According to persons acquainted with the situation who spoke to CNBCTV18, the e-commerce behemoth is now going to terminate over 1,000 staff in India.

ALthough this has not been officially confirmed, we do know that the company will offer certain pay packages to those who may be affected by the layoff. The tech giants claim that many people’s jobs would be impacted, therefore it will offer separation benefits, temporary health insurance, and assistance in finding outside employment.

The company said, “S-team and I are deeply aware that these role eliminations are difficult for people, and we don’t take these decisions lightly or underestimate how much they might affect the lives of those who are impacted. We are working to support those who are affected and are providing packages.”

One percent of Amazon’s employees in India are reportedly likely to be let go as part of the company’s ongoing layoffs process. According to the stated source, Amazon will fire workers from its marketplace and devices teams in the Indian market. The majority of global role eliminations, according to Amazon, will take place in PXT and Amazon Stores businesses, the company said in a blog post.

It is interesting to note that the business had no immediate intentions to announce its layoffs since, as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has acknowledged, the e-commerce giant had to confirm the news after one of his teammates leaked it to the public. In the blog post, he detailed how Amazon intended to first inform impacted employees before introducing layoffs.

“We typically wait to communicate about these outcomes until we can speak with the people who are directly impacted. However, because one of our teammates leaked this information externally, we decided it was better to share this news earlier so you can hear the details directly from me. The e-commerce website has confirmed that it will start communicating with impacted employees starting January 18, which is after one week,” he said.
