Chief Twit, Elon Musk continues to sack public policy employees


Elon Musk, the CEO of the microblogging platform Twitter, recently fired more employees of the company’s remaining public policy team. The team was in charge of interacting with lawmakers and civil society on issues such as free speech, privacy, and online safety.

This comes just days after the company laid off engineers in its infrastructure division. 

“Yesterday was my last day at Twitter, as half of the remaining Public Policy team was cut from the company. It’s hard to convey how fortunate I feel to have had this exceptional opportunity,” Skeadas, a member of Twitter’s public policy team, tweeted. She further went on to say, half of the remaining public policy team has been cut from the company.

“I am unbelievably proud of the work we did to protect people in global conflicts including Iran, Ukraine, and Libya. I am especially proud of my work. Managing our Trust and Safety Council, until it was dissolved last week,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Twitter’s public policy chief, Sinead McSweeney, has left the company.

With Elon Musk’s takeover in October, Twitter experienced its worst layoffs in years. With the latest round of layoffs last week, Twitter is said to have around 2000 employees, down from 7,500 in late September.
