Two of BCCI’s most prominent sponsors, edtech giant BYJU’S and fantasy sports unicorn MPL, are reportedly looking to exit their sponsorship agreements with India’s top cricket body BCCI. The two unicorns specifically wish to terminate their sponsorship agreements for jersey and merchandising, respectively.
According to reports, BCCI received the request from BYJU’s in November, while MPL requested the assignment transfer to KKCL in December. The BCCI has asked both startups to stay on board until March 31, 2023, after which they can terminate the agreements.

“BCCI received an email from BYJU’S on 4.11.2022 requesting terminating the association, post the recently concluded T20 World Cup. As per our discussions, we have asked them to continue the current arrangement and continue the partnership at least until 31.3.2023,” in a statement issued by the BCCI.
As previously stated, MPL wishes to assign the contract for kit and merchandise rights to KKCL (Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited). The current contract is in effect until December 31, 2023.
In other news, Byjus, which has grown tremendously, was also one of the sponsors of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
