Twitter terminates entire teams in India, other employees await ‘confirmation’

According to various current and former employees, the US-based microblogging site Twitter dismissed around 180 of its 230 or so employees in India on Friday.
According to them, the layoffs affected the teams working on content, partnerships, content curation, sales, and social marketing. An employee who was ordered to leave on Friday said, “A lot of folks just woke up to revoked access.”
According to the sources, just a small number of Indian employees—referred to as “survivors” by Twitter India staff—were handed termination notifications, which began arriving early in the day.
According to the reports, “Survivors” were mainly assigned to teams that handle extremely important maintenance tasks as well as government involvement duties. According to a worker, these staffs have been kept on “for the time being,” and the social media platform will decide on their employment “soon.”
Although it was publicly known that Tesla Inc. co-founder Elon Musk had taken control of the platform and had decided to lay off staff members, including top managers, staffers told they had anticipated “some notice period” before being forced to quit.
“We might have received some advance notice. People are informed that they have been dismissed after logging out. This is not how you do it, the fired Friday employee of Twitter said. “Everyone feels that this email (of termination) might have been (done) through) a (face-to-face) conversation,” our US counterparts claim that we will receive 60 days of severance pay.
A second worker who joined Twitter India two years prior “had not gotten any email” informing him that he was being let go but was instead “logged out of all his corporate systems, emails, and Slack,” the person claimed.
Slack is a tool for internal messaging in workplaces.”It’s like waking up in the middle of nowhere and having no idea where to go,” the speaker said. Another ex-employee asked, “What does a middle-aged software engineer who was fired on a Friday do?
As of Friday afternoon, the external relations staff for Twitter India has not replied to emails requesting comment on the layoffs. The terminations at Twitter India are consistent with how workers have been made to leave their jobs in other nations. The mass layoffs were announced in a global email Thursday by the new Twitter management.
“We will go through the challenging process of decreasing our global workforce in an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path. The email, a copy of which has been read, states: “We understand that this will have an impact on a number of people who have contributed greatly to Twitter, but this step is, unfortunately, required to ensure the company’s success moving ahead.
After receiving the email and as soon as the layoffs began, Twitter employees all over the world began tweeting about their resignations. In an apparent dig at Musk, the new owner who had earlier changed his Twitter bio to “Chief Twit” and his location to “Twitter HQ,” the fired staffers tweeted with the hashtag #AlwaysATweepNeverATwit.Employees at Twitter refer to one another as “Tweep” or “Tweeple.”
The #LoveWhereYouWork hashtag and blue heart emojis were among the others that circulated. According to reports, Musk may reduce the 7,600-person worldwide staff by about half. The business claims that the employee credential access to Twitter’s premises has already been “temporarily” turned off.
“Our offices will be temporarily closed, and all badge access will be suspended, assist protect the security of every employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data. Please go home if you are in an office or en route to one, Twitter stated in an internal letter.
