Frontrow lays off 145 employees comprising 30% of the total workforce

FrontRow, a learning and community platform, has laid off 145 people, accounting for 30% of its overall staff. Entrackr confirmed a statement from the corporation that verified the situation. FrontRow is a MasterClass-style enterprise in which celebrities teach classes in their particular disciplines, such as screenwriting by Varun Grover and comedy by Raju Srivastav.

Ishaan Preet Singh, the founder of the company said that when we grew our business over the previous year, we spent extensively on growth, particularly as we created a new category. He went on to say that the layoffs were necessary to guarantee that we reach that goal over the coming decades and that we have more than 24 months of runway to keep iterating and improving on our core business. Over the last few weeks, we’ve had to make some difficult prioritisation decisions. FrontRow is in competition with other celebrity-led learning platforms such as Unlu.

Employees apparently did not get severance pay and were only paid for the month of May. According to reports, the sales, quality control, and human resources teams were all impacted. According to Singh’s remark, the impact was “mainly in sales.”

Frontrow lays off 145 employees

FrontRow, founded by Shubhadit Sharma, Mikhil Raj and Ishaan Preet Singh secured $14 million in funding led by Eight Roads Ventures, as Entrackr exclusively disclosed in September. The Series A round was also attended by Lightspeed, Elevation Capital, and a slew of angels including Ashneer Grover, Karan Singh, Kunal Shah, Nitin Gupta, David Booth, Maninder Gulati, Ashish Gupta, and Eric Feldman.

While the slowdown in financing activity affects businesses regardless of industry, size, stage, or funding, the edtech market is witnessing more layoffs than other segments. Vedantu lay off around 625 employees in two tranches during the last month, including 424 employees earlier this week.
