Waverly Labs brings its translation tech to retail transactions with Subtitles

We have covered Waverly Labs for years and are primarily focused on the company’s portable voice translators. Today, Brooklyn-based hardware startups announced a new form factor for their technology at CES. It’s designed for real-world interactions and doesn’t require sharing an inear device (what looks positive online, as we all focus on bacteria).
The subtitle consists of a double-sided touch screen display mounted on a counter or desk in restaurants, retail stores, banks, airports, hotels, etc. When the user selects their language and speaks, the translation is shown on the opposite display in “near real time”.
Apart from translating the language, it may prove to be a useful tool for the hearing impaired-mostly like personal subtitles. As the name implies, the company compares the experience to watching a translated movie.
This system is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Greek, Russian, Hindi, Turkish, Polish, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Korean. , Cantonese, Hebrew, Thai, Portuguese, Dutch. It is currently on display at CES and will arrive during the second quarter. Prices have not been announced.
Waverly also used the show to showcase a new version of Overear’s translator, Amasaddor Interpreter. Waverly Says: Uses an advanced far-field microphone array in combination with a speech recognition neural network to pick up speech incredibly clearly. It then uses a cloud-based machine translation engine to seamlessly process speech to provide fast, fluid and accurate translations. This is currently available for $ 179.
