Discrimination Against Women During Vaccination Of COVID – 19
- ByStartupStory | June 11, 2021
For every 1000 men who have been vaccinated, only 854 have received the shot. Discrimination against women during vaccination is visible in most states like – Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal. The only exception being Kerala and Chandigarh where 1,045 -1,087 women have been vaccinated for every 1000 men.
In Himachal Pradesh, out of the entire vaccinated population, only 50% is women, and it is important to keep in mind that Himachal has the highest vaccination coverage among all states which is 38%. In Rajasthan, vaccination coverage is almost 30% of the states’s population, but only 48% among them are women. In UP, adult sex ratio is 936, the vaccinated number is 746, in the 12 % vaccinated adult population. The lowest sex ratio is in Delhi, where women are jsut 42% of the total vaccinated population, or arthur 722 for every 1000 men.
The reason behind this discrimination against women during vaccination can have many reasons. The primary being, not many women constitute security forces, or migrant labourers who are mostly being vaccinated. Another reason might be that women are unable to acquire slots in CoWin, and most women can not move around independently. (Source: Times Of India)
