60 Startups Registered With ISRO Since ‘Unlocking’ Of Indian Space Sector: MoS Jitendra Singh

On July 11, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh stated that since the ‘unlocking’ of the Indian space sector, over 60 companies had registered with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Other startups’ proposals range from nanosatellites to launch vehicles, ground systems, and research. The policy is meant to clarify the role that private enterprises can play in space missions, as well as give access to ISRO-owned infrastructure and services.

The Minister highlighted that private players’ and innovative start-ups’ ardor will complement the Department of Space’s role in preserving India’s interests in space by creating all-around capabilities in the sectors of space transportation, debris management, infrastructure, and applications. He stressed that the facility was designed with a comprehensive approach to guaranteeing safety and sustainability while reaping the advantages of long-term space usage for national growth.

According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, ISRO has been taking the required measures to protect all of its space assets against intentional and unintentional close contacts by space objects, including operational spacecraft & space debris items. He went on to say that Space Situational Awareness activities have many strategic implications, including identifying and managing other operational spacecraft with close approaches, possessing overpass over the Indian region, intentional maneuvers with dubious motives, and re-entry within the Indian region.

Since the beginning of the Indian space program, space-based assets have figured prominently in nation-building by providing critical services such as communication, weather & resource monitoring, navigation, and so on. However, the ever-increasing population of space objects, including operational satellites & orbital debris, as well as the accompanying collision hazards, constitute a severe danger to the safe and sustainable utilization of outer space.
