To report reckless driving by its delivery partners, Zomato distributes delivery bags with a hotline phone number

Zomato’s founder, Deepinder Goyal, announced on Wednesday that the company has begun sending out delivery bags with a “hotline phone number” to report reckless driving by its delivery partners.

Deepinder Goyal had stated that Zomato would place a phone number on the bags of its delivery partners so that people could contact and report if any of them were found to be speeding at the company’s annual general meeting in August. Deepinder Goyal posted on Twitter, “As promised previously, we have started rolling out delivery bags which feature a hotline phone number to report reckless driving by our delivery partners.

He said, “Please keep in mind that we do not reward our delivery partners for making on-time deliveries and do not penalise them for making late deliveries. We don’t even let them know when the delivery will be; if someone is hurrying, it’s on their own initiative. Please assist us in reducing traffic on our roadways.”

Zomato received criticism from various sources when it revealed plans to launch instant 10-minute delivery in March of this year. These concerns included the delivery partners’ potential road safety and any possible pressure to reach the deadline.

However, Goyal had stated that the business was not pressuring its delivery partners to bring meals more quickly and would instead meet the goal by relying on a network of dense finishing stations that were close to neighbourhoods with high customer demand.

He said that Zomato has always prioritised the safety of its delivery partners and that “no compromises have been or will be made here.” He also claimed that the platform does not provide incentives for riders to arrive on time.

According to firm chairman Kaushik Dutta, the online food delivery service Zomato has chosen to concentrate on three major areas: food ordering and delivery; supplies to restaurants through “Hyperpure”; and rapid commerce.

The move, according to Dutta, was made as part of a strategy to concentrate “only on areas that have the potential to become genuinely substantial businesses ten years from now,” in his address to shareholders at the company’s annual general meeting.

He noted that Zomato overcame numerous obstacles in FY22, including disruptions brought on by the Covid-19 outbreak, macroeconomic instability, rising inflation, and rising gasoline expenses, in addition to maintaining “adjusted EBITDA burn under control.”

Given the current size and scope of the platform, Dutta said it was chosen this year to exclusively concentrate on sectors that have the potential to become significantly substantial businesses in ten years after considering the company’s strategic priorities. He continued by saying that Zomato would concentrate on just three main areas: fast commerce, Hyperpure, and food ordering and delivery.
