Online food delivery company Swiggy to begin drone trials for grocery delivery


Online food delivery company, Swiggy founded in 2014 by Sriharsha Majety, Rahul Jaimini, and Nandan Reddy has partnered up with technology firms for drone trials for grocery delivery in the region of Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. The drones will be used to deploy orders to a common customer point from where a delivery partner will pick up the order and ship it to the customer.

For these drone trials, Swiggy has selected four firms and the trials will be launched in two stages. Bengaluru will be handled by Garuda Aerospace and the Delhi-NCR will be taken by SKYeair Mobility in the first phase, while TechEagle Consortia, ANRA, and Marut Drontech will be coming in the second phase. Garuda Aerospace said in a tweet that the pilot will be starting with immediate effect in Bangalore.

The Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, Agnishwar Jayaprakash, has called their partnership with Swiggy a, “dawn of a new era in drone deliveries,” also adding after this that with the cities becoming more crowded due to people coming in, startups like Swiggy have recognized how drones can be used to make people’s lives easier and also use advanced technologies with the help of companies like Garuda Aerospace, which also would help in reducing the delivery time.
