Microsoft integrates AI into India’s worker welfare, job platforms

Microsoft is deepening its role in India’s labour systems by integrating artificial intelligence into key worker welfare and job platforms, with the goal of improving access to social protection, employment, and skills for millions of informal and formal workers across the country.

Under a recent memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Microsoft’s cloud and AI tools are being embedded into two major government platforms: e-Shram, which registers and supports informal workers across multiple welfare schemes, and the National Career Service (NCS), India’s central public job portal. The partnership focuses on using AI to simplify access, personalise support, and make job matching more effective at national scale.

On both e-Shram and NCS, multilingual AI chatbots will assist users with tasks such as registration, profile creation, and resume building in Indian languages, lowering barriers for workers who may be less familiar with digital systems. AI-driven job-matching features will analyse a worker’s skills, experience, and location to recommend relevant vacancies, while emerging tools for career planning, skills-gap analysis, mock interviews, and resume refinement are intended to help workers prepare for better roles.

The collaboration also aims to expand employer participation on NCS by bringing in thousands of additional companies from Microsoft’s network, thereby increasing the pool of formal-sector jobs available on the platform. At the same time, it ties into broader AI-led skilling initiatives to equip workers with capabilities in areas such as cloud, cybersecurity, and AI itself, linking employability with the evolving needs of the labour market.

By combining India’s large worker databases with advanced AI and cloud infrastructure, the initiative seeks to transform static registries into dynamic, intelligence-driven employment platforms. In doing so, it supports the government’s wider ambition to make India’s workforce more digitally skilled, globally competitive, and better connected to both social protection and sustainable job opportunities.
