Vidmay Naini Takes on Role of eBay’s General Manager for Emerging Markets
- ByStartupStory | May 3, 2023
eBay has named Vidmay Naini as the new general manager for global emerging markets, overseeing operations in Southeast Asia, India, Eastern Europe, Israel, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America from Singapore. With a focus on expanding the company’s mission of promoting economic growth and empowerment, Naini is excited to take on this global role and explore the vast potential of these regions.
Naini noted that the digital economy is experiencing tremendous growth in these regions, largely due to the contributions of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). He believes that eBay and other global ecommerce platforms can help SMBs revolutionize their export capabilities and expand their reach to new audiences. With a focus on establishing and enhancing the retail exports ecosystem, Naini and his team are eager to facilitate business growth and enable greater access to consumers around the globe.
Having spent 18 years at eBay, Naini has been involved in a number of key projects, including eBay’s strategic investment in Flipkart in 2017 and the successful transformation of eBay’s business in India. He has most recently been overseeing the company’s Southeast Asia and India operations, and his extensive experience and expertise make him an ideal candidate to take on the role of general manager for global emerging markets.

As the new general manager for global emerging markets at eBay, Naini will be responsible for spearheading the company’s initiatives to enable businesses in these regions to tap into global demand. However, this expansion comes amidst recent layoffs within the company. In February, eBay announced its decision to let go of 500 employees, which accounts for around 4% of its workforce. According to CEO Jamie Iannone, this decision was prompted by a careful analysis of the macroeconomic landscape over the past several months.
