Surge by Sequoia announces its 8th batch of 12 startups in India and Southeast Asia”

Surge, a programme that rapidly scales up early-stage start-ups in Southeast Asia and India, has unveiled its eighth cohort, which comprises 30 founders from 12 companies. Notably, 50% of these companies have at least one female leader. Surge 08 features start-ups that are developing cutting-edge products in various fields, such as climate technology, artificial intelligence (AI), the metaverse, digital health, new consumer brands, and novel e-commerce models.
Rajan Anandan, managing director of Surge and Sequoia India & Southeast Asia, has described the start-ups in the latest Surge 08 cohort as creators of cutting-edge products and businesses that could transform their industries in the coming years. These founders are developing next-generation technologies and business models with the potential to revolutionise sectors over the next decade.
The eighth cohort of Surge, known as Surge 08, consists of 12 start-ups, two of which are health tech firms that use AI to enhance medical imaging and insurance. Additionally, the cohort features two climate tech companies, a metaverse gaming platform aimed at Gen Z, an AI firm that has collaborated with NASA, and three consumer companies focused on developing contemporary brands in areas such as home decor, food, and weddings.

Arintra, AltWorld, Bifrost, and Masterchow are just a few of the start-ups featured in Surge 08’s cohort of 12 companies. Many of these founders are targeting global markets, with 50% of the start-ups aiming to expand into the US, Europe, and Canada. Currently, the cohort is participating in a 16-week hybrid programme that focuses on building their companies.
The Surge program has been privileged to host distinguished speakers and mentors such as Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Girish Mathrubootham, Kunal Shah, and Amrish Rau. This program has also welcomed renowned entrepreneurs such as Abhiraj Singh Bhal, Kunal Bahl, Yamini Bhat, Doug Leone, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Deepinder Goyal, Nithin Kamath, and Vidit Aatrey. Currently, Surge’s selective start-up community comprises over 300 founders and more than 130 start-ups spanning 16 different sectors.
