Dutch-listed technology investor Prosus, a subsidiary of Naspers, has announced an internal reorganization by splitting its edtech and food-delivery segments into two distinct segments, each with dedicated leadership. Effective from September 1, this move aims to enhance the management of the expanding portfolios under these verticals. Larry Illg, the acting CEO of the combined segment, will step down, and Roger Rabalais will become the CEO of the food delivery segment. Gautam Thakar, the current CEO of OLX Autos, will take over as the CEO of the global edtech vertical.
According to an internal memo sourced by The Economic Times, Prosus stated, “As of September 1, we will separate food delivery and edtech into two discrete segments, each with its own dedicated leadership team.” This strategic shift acknowledges the transformation of early-stage investments into prominent portfolios.
Gautam Thakar’s role as the CEO of the edtech vertical will also encompass a broader leadership position for Prosus in India. Both Roger Rabalais and Gautam Thakar are expected to assume roles as representatives of Prosus on the boards of investee companies across the edtech and food delivery sectors.
This restructuring comes after the resignation of Russell Dreisenstock, Prosus’s representative, from the board of BYJU’S in June. The reorganization indicates Prosus’s commitment to strengthening its presence and influence within the evolving edtech and food delivery industries.
