No better time to do a startup than now: Sundar Pichai

Ashwini Vaishnaw, minister for railways, communications, electronics and information technology and Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google took center stage to discuss the forthcoming of technology and AI in the digital space of India at Google For India 2022. The two discussed and envisioned the future of technology and how AI is going to play a very big role in India’s tech story going forward.
As we roll into the 21st century the need for advancement in the tech aspect rises. The vision of Digital India has truly taken over nowadays. With the advent of digital payment systems, AI-enabled technology and much more ,the Indian economy is making developments towards the tech sector in a robust fashion. In the conversation, The minister highlighted the focus areas for the Government when it comes to the digital world and cybersecurity. Vaishnaw explained that the vision of Digital India has really taken the country to a level where we have a very successful and scalable India stack.

Further, the government will be focussing the startup ecosystem in tier two and tier three cities. They would also channelise the talent concentration that India holds through a very comprehensive legal and regulatory ecosystem. Adding to this, Pichai spoke about ‘Digital India’ playing a role in the growth of the startup economy. He shared how every time he visits India, the sophistication of the Indian startup ecosystem was measurably improving.
The CEO stated “There is no better time to do a startup than the current moment, even though we are working through a macroeconomic moment like this,”. He also added that there is no better time to do a startup than the current moment because companies like Google were created in moments of a downturn. Hence, he is very bullish about it over time.
Closing the discussion, Pichai advised the next generation, entering the tech space to think beyond programming or engineering. He asks the younger generation to think about tech holistically by focusing on the surrounding areas, be it policy or ethics.
Vaishnaw advised not to think small, but big. “Think on a global scale,because that constructs all the basic components needed for creating Olympic scale solutions,” he concluded.
