Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, emphasized Jio Platforms’ ambitious goal of spearheading the development of India-centric Artificial Intelligence (AI) models during the 46th annual general meeting of the company. Amid the whirlwind of AI-driven technological advancements, Ambani envisions India taking a pioneering role, benefiting citizens, businesses, and the government. “A global AI revolution is reshaping our world. Intelligent applications are bound to revolutionise industries, economies, and even our day-to-day lives. To remain at the cutting edge and stay globally competitive, India needs to harness AI for innovation, growth, and prosperity,” stated Ambani.
India’s unique positioning with vast scale, rich data resources, and a pool of talent is a promising foundation. However, as Ambani highlighted, the missing piece is the digital infrastructure capable of handling the substantial computational demands of AI. Jio Platforms aims to fill this gap with an ambitious plan to create 2000 megawatts of AI-ready computing capacity. This endeavor is focused on sustainable scaling, with Ambani committing to transitioning towards greener energy practices over the next five years. He recalled, “Seven years ago, Jio pledged broadband for all. Today, the promise is AI for all.”
Jio Platforms’ grand vision for AI resonates with the optimism of N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, who believes that AI will generate job opportunities in India, enabling individuals with minimal skills to undertake advanced roles. The challenge, however, lies in addressing privacy and job-related concerns. Chandrasekaran assured that India is making substantial progress in safeguarding data transactions through regulations for data privacy and the introduction of the Data Empowerment and Protection Architecture (DEPA).
Beyond AI, Jio is actively expanding its offerings. Ambani revealed the upcoming launch of Jio AirFibre during Ganesh Chaturthi next month. Additionally, the JioBharat V2, a 4G phone produced by Karbonn and priced at just Rs 999, aims to empower 25 crore Indians still relying on 2G networks. Reliance is also establishing the Jio True5G Lab, an innovative facility situated at Reliance Corporate Park, designed to accelerate industry transformation.
As the global AI landscape experiences rapid shifts, Jio Platforms, under Ambani’s leadership, is committed to ensuring that India not only keeps pace but also sets global benchmarks. The promise of a brighter, AI-powered future for India is indeed within reach.
