Jio introduces the beta version of its JioGamesCloud cloud gaming platform

The cloud gaming platform JioGamesCloud was beta-tested last week by Jio. Users on websites like Reddit noted that they could now access GeForce Now games on their Jio set-top boxes, which is how the launch first came to light. It appears Jio has licenced GeForce Now, an Nvidia cloud gaming platform, for use on its own platform. Cloud gaming enables users’ devices, such as PCs, phones, tablets, and set-top boxes, to stream games directly from a server.
On a Windows computer connected to WiFi and an Android handset linked to Jio’s 4G network, we tested the beta from Bengaluru. A game with moderately demanding graphics, Deliver Us to the Moon, performed better on Jio’s network than it did over WiFi. There are currently only a small number of AAA big-budget games and a large number of ultra-casual indie games.
Both the web application and the JioGames app advise establishing a solid WiFi or 5G connection. Jio’s 5G launch is taking place gradually, but a few users will soon be able to connect to the 5G networks in several major cities, including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. But it’s not clear how much 5G coverage is available in certain cities.

Jio’s intentions to launch the service on its set-top box are especially intriguing because STBs are more accessible to users than a 5G phone or a respectable PC right now. According to a petition with the Bureau of Indian Standards, the company received approval for a gaming controller it licenced from the Korean company Aksys last year. Currently, the business sells this controller on its website.
Now that their 5G networks are being deployed across the nation, other telcos are also attempting to join the cloud gaming craze. In collaboration with CareGame, Vi demonstrated its product at the India Mobile Congress 2022 in October. Airtel had previously shown off its own cloud gaming service in September. Neither telecom has conducted a full launch of their solution, and neither is currently in public beta.
