Google approaches NCLAT against CCI’s verdict on Android

Google (Google) has filed an appeal with the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) against the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) order of unfair trade practices in the case of the Android mobile device ecosystem. This information was provided by a company spokesperson on Friday.
A Google spokesperson said, “We have decided to appeal against the CCI’s decision on Android. We believe this decision is a major blow to Indian users and companies who rely on the security features of Android. The cost of which will potentially increase.”
In its decision, the Competition Commission fined Google Rs 1,337.76 crore for abusing its dominant position in several markets in the case of Android mobile devices. In addition, CCI (Competition Commission of India) had requested that the internet sector company refrain from engaging in a variety of unfair business practices.

On this, a Google spokesperson said, “We will keep our point in NCLAT. Along with this, we are committed to our users and partners.” The company said that Android has brought benefits to Indian users, developers and OEMs and has furthered the country’s digital transformation.
According to sources, Google is confident that the NCLAT will investigate the evidence that Android has contributed to the massive growth and prosperity of India’s mobile ecosystem. According to a report, approximately 600 million smartphones are currently in use in India, with 97% of them running the Android operating system.
Apart from Google, the CCI fined online travel services provider MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, and hotel services provider Oyo Oyo for unfair trade practices in the month of October this year.
