Former Tata CLiQ CEO Vikas Purohit is appointed by Meta to lead its global business group in India

To lead its strategic interactions with brands and ad agencies, social media company Meta on Monday named Vikas Purohit as Director of Global Business Group in India, strengthening its leadership team in the wake of several recent high-level departures.

Purohit left his position as CEO of Tata Cliq last month after joining the company in November 2016 as Chief Operating Officer.

According to a statement released by Meta, Purohit will collaborate with the media and creative ecosystems to hasten the adoption of digital tools by marketers and agencies.

He will receive reports from the business solutions teams, agency teams, and key business teams for Meta in India. Arun Srinivas, Director and Head of Ads Business for Meta in India, would be Purohit’s primary supervisor.

“India’s largest businesses and agencies are playing a crucial role in the country’s expanding digital economy and are building innovative business models that are inspiring marketers globally,” Srinivas said in a media statement.

At organisations like Tommy Hilfiger, Reliance Brands, Aditya Birla Group, and Amazon, Purohit has more than 20 years of experience in senior business, sales, and marketing roles. He graduated from Bangalore’s Indian Institute of Management.

After Ajit Mohan left the company to join its rival, Snap, and take charge of its APAC operations, Sandhya Devanathan was named the Head and Vice President of Meta India, according to a November announcement from Meta. On January 1st, 2023, Sandhya began serving in her new position.

The duopoly that Google owner Alphabet and Facebook parent company Meta had over the digital advertising business has suffered. Due to the present economic climate’s drop in digital advertising spending, both companies’ rise in ad income has halted.

Due to weak advertising demand, increased competition from rivals like TikTok, and Apple’s iOS privacy changes, Meta reported a more than 50% drop in profit and a second consecutive quarterly revenue decline in October.
