Bharti Airtel has increased the price of its minimum recharge for the 28-day mobile phone service plan by approximately 57% to Rs.155 in eight circles, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh West.
The company has discontinued its Rs.99 minimum recharge plan, which included 200 megabytes of data and calls at a rate of 2.5 paise per second. Airtel has now begun offering the Rs.155 plan in Haryana and Odisha, which includes unlimited calling, 1 GB of data, and 300 SMSes.
In November, the company raised the tariff in Haryana and Odisha.

When contacted, an Airtel spokesperson said: “In line with our focus on providing a better customer experience, we have discontinued the metered tariff and introduced an entry-level plan of Rs.155 with unlimited voice, 1 GB data and 300 sms. Customers can now use this plan with no constraints. We believe this plan will prove greater flexibility, convenience and superior value”.
Other circles where the Rs 99 plan has been replaced with Rs.155 recharge plan are– Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, North East and Himachal Pradesh.
According to sources, the company will steadily roll out the same across India.
The company is likely to close all 28-day calling plans with SMS and data priced below Rs.155. This means that even for getting SMS service in the monthly plan, a customer will have to recharge their mobile phone account with a Rs.155 pack.
