Avidii Launches On-Demand Edtech Platform in India, Aiming to Reach 1 Million Users

Avidii, an edtech platform hailing from Switzerland, has made its way to India, offering on-demand educational services. The startup asserts that it has successfully enlisted over 400 tutors throughout the country. With its launch in 2021 by founders Deepak Subbarao, Roman Buhler, Xavier Vanderhaeghe, and Yannick Streicher in Zurich, Switzerland, Avidii commenced its comprehensive operations in Bengaluru, India in early 2023.

As per Avidii’s official statement, the edtech platform is currently active in four countries and has set a goal to reach 1 million users and downloads in India by the year-end. Avidii specializes in providing personalized and on-demand learning solutions for a range of subjects, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Commerce, and Arts. Their primary target audience comprises students aged 11 to  18.

Additionally, Avidii caters to students who are enrolled in educational programs following the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination (ICSE), and State Boards curricula. The startup provides a comprehensive range of services, including 24/7 direct and immediate connectivity between tutors and students. Avidii operates under both the business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) models.

Commenting on its operations, cofounder Deepak Subbarao said, “At Avidii, Tutors use a variety of advanced teaching tools—such as digital whiteboard, graphic annotation features and sharing of learning materials—to create comprehensive learning sessions for the students.”

According to the startup, Avidii distinguishes itself from other edtech players in India by its on-demand nature and lack of mandatory course completion time for students. This unique selling proposition (USP) sets it apart in the market. Unlike its competitors, Avidii does not impose a minimum commitment period, making it flexible for students.

Avidii emphasizes that its platform ensures individual attention to student queries by their tutors. Additionally, Avidii provides remote working opportunities for tutors. Major competitors in India’s edtech market include industry leaders like BYJU’S and Physics Wallah. Recently, Scaler made headlines with their undisclosed acquisition of Delhi-based Pepcoding. The Edtech Report 2022 reveals that Indian startups in the edtech sector raised an impressive $2.4 billion through 95 deals in 2022.
