Apna and Swiggy Partner to Create 10,000 Hyperlocal Gig Opportunities for Youth
- ByStartupStory | April 27, 2023
The e-commerce industry in India has brought about a significant transformation in shopping convenience for consumers. As a result, the demand for delivery personnel has surged, and it is estimated that the delivery workforce will reach 23.5 million by 2029-30. Swiggy has teamed up with apna, a job and professional networking platform, to expand its delivery workforce in tier II cities. The partnership aims to create 10,000 hyperlocal job opportunities in Bharat’s deeper regions for Swiggy’s quick commerce grocery service, Instamart, in 2023.
The Indian economy is experiencing post-pandemic growth, with a surge in demand from the growing workforce. One of the most sought-after roles among the new-age workforce is that of delivery partners. Quick commerce companies are proactively hiring delivery personnel to meet the burgeoning consumer demand. RedSeer predicts that the quick commerce industry will expand to $5.5 billion by 2025, a significant increase from $0.3 billion in 2021. This rapid growth will intensify the demand for delivery partners, compelling businesses to recruit more of them.
Acquiring skilled talent from tier II and III cities has been a significant hurdle for organisations, mainly due to various challenges such as lack of industry knowledge, orientation, inadequate experience, and unfamiliarity with the current market situation. In India, this issue is even more pronounced, with companies facing persistent difficulties in hiring qualified talent from smaller towns and cities.
apna has been helping employers from SMBs to large enterprises in India to overcome the challenges of finding the right talent, particularly in tier II cities and beyond. With a robust network in these areas, the company has made it easier for organisations to acquire skilled professionals. The partnership between apna and Swiggy is a clear example of the success of this approach.
In 2022, over 1.5 million users from tier II, tier III cities and beyond applied for 3 million delivery roles on apna’s platform, which accounted for almost 70% of the new users’ growth in the delivery segment. Nirmit Parikh, Founder and CEO of apna, stated that the company is thrilled to collaborate with Swiggy, as both share the goal of empowering people to achieve financial independence and self-reliance. With delivery partner opportunities emerging in remote areas of the country, the partnership aims to bridge the demand-supply gap for Swiggy and create more job opportunities in the upcoming months.
Swiggy considers delivery partners to be the backbone of its operations, enabling the company to serve millions of customers across various services, including food and quick commerce. With a presence in over 500 cities for food delivery and 25 cities for Instamart, the company is committed to recruiting partners from tier 2 and 3 cities. The partnership with apna has played a crucial role in expanding Swiggy’s delivery fleet, particularly for Instamart, in smaller cities, to meet the growing demand. Kedar Gokhale, VP of Operations at Swiggy, expressed his delight that this partnership is creating more income opportunities for delivery partners and contributing to the growth of the economy.
