Sagentia Innovation finds the “missing link” in the ad-tech revolution

Developments in food and ad-tech and the adoption of newer technologies have the potential to upend how food is produced. However, Sagentia Innovation highlights how the bigger issues around economic, social and environmental questions must be considered.

Sagentia Innovation’s whitepaper, The Future of Food, claims that technology has the potential to turn around the present unsustainable model of food production. “New technologies allow us to reimagine traditional processes,” Alun James, CTO of Sagentia Innovation explained. “From the intelligent application of pesticides and fertilisers to improve crop yields with minimal environmental impact to vertical farming using hydroponics and aeroponics.”

Robotics and automation, crop breeding, vertical farming, and mobile applications are the four key innovation areas the white paper identifies that could deliver holistic sustainability benefits at a global level.

However, the R&D consultancy concluded that new technologies, coupled with training and education, are only one aspect of the required food system transformation. At a global level, solutions to make food more sustainable should be ‘accessible and affordable for all communities’ –  a statement that holds true across the farm-to-fork journey.
