Oppo has unveiled the first look of ColorOS 12 based on Android 12 in China. The new update comes with tons of visual upgrades and picks up on the privacy features of Android 12, like adding a notification in the status bar when apps activate the camera or microphone.
Oppo has introduced several UI changes with ColorOS 12. There are newly redesigned squircle-shaped acrylic icons. The interface is clutter-free with more white space between page layouts and text so that you can focus on the core content. There are over 300 new animations, and there is an increased contrast. ColorOS 12 makes more use of contrasting colours and white space, with less information density on many displays. The icons have been subtly redesigned to take better advantage of depth and texture.
The key goals for ColorOS 12 were to make multitasking easier and to increase the legibility of the system. There are things like the Quick Glance cards, widget-like cards that show status information of connected smart devices and offer simple actions with buttons.
It includes the Smart Sidebar 2.0, which can be pulled out from the side and offers contextually relevant actions based on the app you are using currently.
It comes with a new Omoji, which is a personalized 3D avatar that can mimic your every expression. The smart slider in Color OS is also got a revamp as it now features six new tools and can be pulled up from the side of the phone. Cross-screen connection is another big feature of ColorOS 12 that enables the user to use their phone from their PC, and share files at good speeds. This feature can also be used to edit documents on PCs that are stored on your Oppo phone.
According to Oppo, the public beta of ColorOS 12 will start arriving on the Find X3 series in October in China
