Head of Instagram’s parent company Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that his team is working on introducing NFTs to the social media platform. He was speaking at the Southwest (SXSW) film festival at Austin’s annual South.
According to a reporter who live-tweeted the event, Zuckerberg said that they are working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term. He is not ready to announce what exactly that’s going to be today.
A reporter from the Verge tweeted that Mark Zuckerberg said in the coming months, Instagram users will hopefully be able to mount NFTs on the platform.
Last year, rebranded from Facebook to Meta, the company had already announced that the Metaverse will have provisions for NFTs and other digital objects which they are planning to build.

Facebook Head of Metaverse Products Vishal Shah said that this will make selling Limited Edition digital objects like NFTs easier for people, display them in their digital spaces, and even resell it to the next person securely.
In January, similarly, it has been reported that for both Facebook and Instagram users, Meta was working on plans in order to be able to display NFTs on their profiles.
