Emirates to launch NFTs and experiences in the metaverse for its customers and employees


Leading Airline company Emirates has announced its plans to soon launch NFTs and new experiences in the metaverse for its customers and employees. The airline this week unveiled its plans to build signature brand experiences in the metaverse, alongside both collectible and utility-based NFTs. The first projects are underway, with a launch soon expected in the coming months.

The airline major announced that its Emirates Pavilion at the Expo 2020 site would be repurposed into a centre for innovation, bringing talent from all around the world to bring to life the airline’s future-focused projects, including those relating to Web3,metaverse and NFT.

“Dubai and the UAE are blazing the way in the digital economy, having a clear vision backed by practical policies and regulatory frameworks in areas including virtual assets, AI, and data protection,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chief executive and Chairman at Emirates.

“Emirates has always embraced advanced tech to improve our business processes, enrich our employees’ experiences and skills and further enhance our customer offering, ” he further added.

“We are very excited about the opportunities in the digital space of the future and are now committing a major nvestment in financial and resourcing terms to develop services and products using advanced technologies that will deliver on-brand experience, business efficiencies, and on revenue,” says HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. Emirates will continue to engage with industry partners on its Web3 strategy, and recruit talent for its pipeline projects, the company said.

The airline giant is known for pioneering web virtual reality tech on emirates.com and on its Emirates app more than 5 years ago, offering an immersive 360-degree 3D, view of its cabin interior experiences onboard. Emirates customers were able to explore their seats before checking in online with the 3D seat map, and prospective customers can even book their preferred seats from within the 3D environment.

In 2021, Emirates also became the first airline to launch its own virtual reality app on the Oculus store, offering users life-size, interactive, and accurate cabin interior experiences onboard Emirates flagship A380 aircraft and Boeing 777-300ER Gamechanger aircraft.
