Elon Musk has announced the appointment of a new CEO for Twitter, although he did not disclose the identity of the individual who would be taking over his position at the social media platform as he transitions to a different role.
In a tweet, Musk revealed that he has recruited a new CEO for X/Twitter, who will begin in roughly six weeks. He also shared that he will be transitioning to an executive chair and CTO position, where he will supervise product development, software, and sysops.
Although Musk did not disclose the identity of the new CEO, sources familiar with the matter have informed The Wall Street Journal that Linda Yaccarino, NBCUniversal’s Head of Advertising, is in discussions to assume the role. Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion last year and has been serving as CEO since then.

Last December, Musk conducted a Twitter survey to determine whether he should resign as head of the microblogging platform. The poll received approximately 17,502,391 votes, with 57.5% of users voting in favor of his resignation and the remaining 42.5% rejecting the notion. Musk responded in a subsequent tweet, stating that “I would step down as CEO as soon as I found someone foolish enough to assume the position, following which I would oversee the software and server teams”.
Since Elon Musk completed the $44 billion purchase of Twitter, the social media platform has experienced numerous transformations. Twitter was recently merged with X Corp, which is creating an all-in-one app to support messaging, social media, e-commerce, and payments. As a result of the merger, Twitter no longer operates as an independent legal entity and is now fully owned and integrated into X Corp.
