Funding Alert

Doosan Robotics announces $33.7M raise, as it introduces a robotic camera system at CES

Doosan Robotics announced this week a $ 33.7 million funding led by Praxis Capital Partners and Korea Investment Partners. The funding news hits when the Seoul-based company unveils its products at CES in Las Vegas.

The company states that the funds will be used to increase research and development, attract new partners and expand its global presence. Doosan also said in a press release that robotic systems reach 1,000 units annually, with non-South Korean sales (mainly North America and Western Europe) accounting for about 70% of the total. The company is also considering an IPO.

“We look forward to using the funds we raised recently to grow our business,” CEO Junghoon Ryu said in a press release. “We will continue to improve the competitiveness of new products and software equipped with our unique technology and strive to gain the  number one market share  in the global collaborative robot market.”

Doosan mainly collaborates. Known for robots. From production to research, coffee making barista robot Dr. Presso released at the end of last year is sufficient. In addition to the  financial news, the company also announced the NINA (“New Inspiration. New Angle”) camera system. As I mentioned  a few weeks ago after receiving the CES Innovation Award, this week I’m getting more information about the robotic system that will be available in March.

The company describes NINA as a “prosumer” system. This can be applied to  a relatively simple approach to capturing footage that can be complex. This is partly due to  object tracking combined with an open platform where users can program different shots.

“NINA heralds a whole new era in Doosan by expanding our products into the entertainment and content genres,” the company’s CEO said in another statement. “Our goal was to provide professional content creators in entertainment, advertising, social media and other related industries with something accessible yet innovative. NINA is totally brilliant. I’m sure. “
