CoreWeave Acquires US-Based Open-Source AI Toolmaker Marimo to Enhance AI Developer Workflow

CoreWeave, a leading cloud infrastructure provider built specifically for AI workloads, has announced the acquisition of Marimo Inc., a cutting-edge US-based company known for its open-source AI-native notebook platform. This multi-year acquisition aims to unify the generative AI developer workflow by embedding Marimo’s open-source technology directly into the CoreWeave ecosystem, enhancing the platform’s capabilities for AI and data science development.

Founded in 2022, Marimo created the marimo notebook, an AI-native, reactive development environment for Python that blends the interactivity of traditional notebooks with full reproducibility, git-friendly workflows, and cloud-hosted services. It was designed to improve upon conventional Jupyter notebooks by offering a more reliable and scalable solution tailored for modern AI and machine learning applications.

With this acquisition, CoreWeave plans to supercharge Marimo’s cloud-hosted notebook offering through integration with its high-performance AI cloud infrastructure. The combined platform will provide developers with a seamless experience across the entire AI lifecycle, including training, inference, data movement, and continuous iteration.

Brian Venturo, CoreWeave’s co-founder and chief strategy officer, said the deal reflects CoreWeave’s commitment to supporting open-source innovation and providing developers with the most complete environment to build, scale, and deploy AI applications efficiently. He emphasized that unifying compute infrastructure with developer tools accelerates AI product development from prototype to production.

Akshay Agrawal, co-founder and CEO of Marimo, shared that joining CoreWeave enables the Marimo team to pursue their vision of building the world’s best programming environment for AI and data work at a much greater scale. They remain committed to maintaining Marimo as a free, permissively licensed open-source project, continuing to invest in its development and the broader developer community.

The acquisition strengthens CoreWeave’s vertically integrated AI platform, complementing its recent purchases of other AI tooling companies such as Weights & Biases and OpenPipe. These moves position CoreWeave as a comprehensive cloud partner for AI developers, offering everything from compute infrastructure to advanced machine learning operations (MLOps) and now developer notebooks optimized for AI workflows.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not publicly disclosed. Morgan Stanley served as exclusive financial advisor to Marimo. CoreWeave, which went public on Nasdaq earlier in 2025 under the ticker CRWV, operates more than 30 data centers worldwide and has established partnerships with leading AI organizations.

By combining open-source software innovation with robust cloud infrastructure, CoreWeave and Marimo expect to empower developers and organizations worldwide to accelerate AI research, experimentation, and deployment—fueling the next wave of generative AI solutions.
