Andhra Pradesh Urges Unicorn Startups To Establish Visakhapatnam As a Startup Hub


Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked unicorn startups to base themselves in Visakhapatnam.

During the ongoing World Economic Forum session in Davos, Reddy assured the CEOs of startups that the Andhra Pradesh government will provide the necessary infrastructure for the creation of the (startup) hub.

Reddy announced on Twitter that he had met the CEOs of BYJU’S, CoinSwitch, EaseMyTrip, Coursera, and other startups. He also asked them (startup entrepreneurs) about the resources needed to launch a business from Visakhapatnam.

“We are committed to creating the ecosystem required to encourage the startups in the state. We will extend our fullest support to you to start your operations. We want you (startups) to make Visakhapatnam as the hub of your activities across the globe,” said Reddy.

Reddy went on to say that the decision to make Visakhapatnam a hub for startup operations will encourage young people and entrepreneurs to enter the (startup) sector. It will also serve as a catalyst for new ventures.

The Andhra Pradesh government will make the necessary policy changes to enable startup operations in Visakhapatnam.

Susmita Sarkar, BYJU’s vice president (public policy), stated that the startup will work with the state government to strengthen its education system. She also stated that the edtech startup will establish an academic R&D center in Visakhapatnam and will provide study materials to students attending government schools.

Furthermore, Ashish Singhal, CEO of CoinSwitch Kuber, stated that the startup will assist the state government in storing records of the comprehensive land survey. It will provide the state government with cutting-edge technology to manage a large volume of records digitally.

Prasanth Pitti, the founder of EasyMyTrip, stated that the company will promote the tourism sector of Andhra Pradesh by launching an aggressive campaign to elevate the state’s tourism destinations to a global level.

Founders of Meesho, vHive, coursera, and Industries Minister Gudivada Amarnath, Special Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy, APIIC MD J Subramanyam, and other government officials also attended the session.
